Community Accountancy Self Help (CASH) is part of an expanding network of community accountancy projects helping people in local communities acquire the basic financial skills needed to run successful charities and community and voluntary organisations: writing budgets, bookkeeping, bank reconciliation, cashflow and producing finance reports. The 'self-help' element has two important aspects. CASH provides the means by which organisations and individuals can acquire the skills needed for them to run the financial affairs of their organisation. We do not encourage dependency. 'Self-help' also means trustees accepting full responsibility for the running of their organisation and having the confidence to do so. This is good for voluntary organisations, good for their clients and ultimately good for the community.

Local charities are increasingly involved in helping to meet the priorities of local authorities - raising education standards and promoting lifelong learning, caring for people in need and reducing poverty and social exclusion to name but a few. For charities to be active partners with local authorities and other funders requires them to adopt quality systems, the cornerstone of which is sound financial management and clear accountability for public money. As well as providing training it also produces publications such as Cashnews and Cashfacts. We also have a webpage CASH Online, which has lots of interesting facts for voluntary organisations.
